Nexium works to relieve symptoms of GERD, such as stomach discomfort, bloating, and indigestion, and to protect the heart. It is a natural PPI, and Nexium works by blocking acid production in the stomach, which reduces the need for heartburn and other acid-related symptoms. Nexium is available in three strengths (1mg, 2mg, and 5mg).
Nexium should be taken with a full glass of water. Do not take the medication without first consulting with your doctor. Take Nexium 1 hour before or 2 hours after taking a meal. Taking Nexium 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal can help you to avoid stomach acid, which can be irritating the esophagus.
Do not take Nexium if you have ever had an allergic reaction to esomeprazole, esomeprazole magnesium, or any of the ingredients listed at the end of this leaflet.
If you have taken Nexium and you have a stomach ulcer or heartburn, you should seek medical attention immediately.
If you have a history of peptic ulcers, stomach bleeding, or other stomach disorders, you should contact your doctor or healthcare provider.
This medicine may cause allergic reactions in some people. Stop taking this medicine if you have an allergy to any of the ingredients listed at the end of this leaflet.
If you have ever had an allergic reaction to other medicines, please inform your doctor or pharmacist as soon as possible. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription.
The ingredients listed at the end of this leaflet may not be all that they should be. Ask your pharmacist for more information.
In the event you are taking a medicine that contains esomeprazole magnesium, or if you are taking a medicine for heartburn, you should not use esomeprazole magnesium. Always take the medicine exactly as your doctor tells you to take it.
If you are not sure whether you are taking esomeprazole magnesium, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. Your doctor will tell you how much to take and how often to take the medicine.
If you are taking any of the medicines listed at the end of this leaflet, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
Active ingredients:esomeprazole magnesium
If you have a stomach ulcer or have had an acid reaction with Nexium, you should stop taking esomeprazole magnesium. You may have to take Nexium for 2 weeks or longer for the acid reaction to go away. Do not stop taking esomeprazole magnesium unless your doctor tells you to.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any of the medicines listed at the end of this leaflet. Some medicines may affect how well esomeprazole magnesium works. This includes medicines used to treat high blood pressure, to treat infections, and to treat the symptoms of cancer.
Some medicines may interfere with esomeprazole magnesium, such as aminoglycosides and benzylpenicillin. Your doctor may check your progress after you have taken esomeprazole magnesium. Your doctor may also check your progress after you have taken Nexium. If you have not told your doctor about any of your medicines, tell him/her immediately.
Some medicines may cause side effects. Some medicines may affect how esomeprazole magnesium works.
